Revealing a slice of Melbourne which visitors often don’t get to experience, the People’s Ground conference dinner will be held at historic Abbotsford Convent, located on the land of the Wurundjeri, near the junction of the Yarra River and Merri Creek.

On the way to the conference dinner, guests will be able to visit the recently restored Good Shepherd Chapel at the entrance to the Convent, which received the 2013 Australian Institute of Architects Heritage Award for Restoration & New Works. Originally known as the Church of the Immaculate Conception, the Chapel was completed in 1871 and designed by Mr Thomas A Kelly, modeled on the mother house of the Good Shepherd Sisters in Angers, France.

Guests will then be able enjoy a cocktail while being welcomed by representatives of the Abbotsford Convent Foundation, followed by an opportunity to take a self-guided tour of the Convent site, which was saved from subdivision and development community campaigners in the 1990s, and is now is now Australia’s largest multi-arts precinct. The Foundation, as well as heritage architect Nigel Lewis, will provide insights into the history of this architecturally and historically significant site, including the successful campaign to save it.

A three-course grazing menu, designed to share, will then be served in the Rosina building, with entertainment provided by the swingin’ Moonshine Whistlers trio. A range of premium of beer, wine and soft drinks will be available throughout the evening.

Conference dinner tickets include bus transfers from the CBD (pick-up and drop-off location TBC).
