The heritage conservation movement in Australia was borne out of the destructive actions of governments in the 1970s and 80s. Community outrage lead to our current regulation, however, it has been criticised as being bureaucratic and inaccessible to everyday Australians. This paper explores current community attitudes to heritage conservation by capturing residents’ experiences of living in Brisbane’s iconic Queenslander houses.
