Meredith WALKER, AM, is a heritage practitioner and advocate of diverse heritage causes linking people, places and objects and with a long term interest in putting theory into practice. She has been active in the development of the Australia ICOMOS Burra Charter and its Guidelines (now revised as Practice Notes). She is co-author (with Peter Marquis-Kyle) of The Illustrated Burra Charter: Good Practice for Heritage Places (1992 and 2004). She is an honorary life member of Australia ICOMOS and the National Trust of Australia (NSW) – from whom she received a lifetime achievement award in 2009. She is a former chair of Australia ICOMOS and is a member of the ICOMOS ISC for Theory and Philosophy of Conservation and Restoration. In retirement, Meredith focuses on Indigenous Reconciliation, bush regeneration and aged care.
